Hello, friends! A happy Friday to you all. I hope that you are all doing well. In times like these, I thought it’d be helpful to write a little bit about the importance of hobbies.
As we’re spending more time at home, we can often find ourselves thinking, what do I do now? Once we’ve done all the dishes, caught up on all the laundry, and watched Netflix until our eyes burn, what do we do next?
We focus on our hobbies, that’s what!
Now, as I began writing this post, I couldn’t help but wonder if I had written on this already… I looked through my blog and I don’t think I have… however, I’m sure that I’ve mentioned the importance of hobbies in other posts, but that’s only because I find them to be that important.
The thing about hobbies is that you don’t even need to be good at them! Just because we enjoy doing something, it doesn’t mean that we think we’re great at it. I love sewing, but I know that despite having done it for years, I still have much to learn.
Another point I want to make is that our hobbies do not have to be considered a side hustle, or something that we make money from. If you can sew, you don’t have to use that talent to sell items. If that’s something you’re interested in, awesome, but sometimes you just want to do a project for yourself and that’s OKAY. Not everything you do has to be related to monetary gain.
I think hobbies are a good in-between for Netflix and chores. Hobbies are great because they have the ability to help us reconnect with ourself. They let us slow down and create something. I enjoy watching movies or TV shows but after a few hours I end up feeling kind of yucky about spending my day on the couch.
In this time where we find ourselves (most likely) with some extra time on our hands, look around and find activities that bring you joy. If you’re feeling completely at a loss for hobbies you’d enjoy, think back to your childhood — what did you enjoy doing as a kid? For me, I loved writing, reading, and sewing! And guess what… I still love all of those things!
Thank you so much for reading, my dear friends! I hope that you are all staying safe.
XOXO,
Mattie Mae
