Hello, my dear friends! Happy Tuesday to you all. I hope that you are all staying warm and cozy as winter marches on. I haven’t gotten sick of the cold and the snow yet, when I walk outside and find it snowing, I immediately get a big ol’ smile on my face. Speaking of things that make me smile… clean laundry! Today’s blog we will be talking about my laundry detergent switch.
I recently made a laundry detergent change. Ever since I began buying my own laundry detergent, I’ve been buying the standard scented liquid detergent that comes in those big plastic containers. A couple of weeks ago I decided to make the change to buying unscented powder detergent in the bulk aisle of our co-op.
I’ve been trying my hardest as of late to decrease my plastic usage when possible, and I thought that I would give this a go. Laundry detergent bottles are generally quite bulky and made up of plastic, so I was looking to find an alternative to them. At the natural foods store that we go to, we’re able to buy powder detergent in bulk, so we bring in a glass jar to fill up when we go, and it lasts us for quite awhile, and I would say that the price is quite generous. I will say that I was quite apprehensive that our clothes wouldn’t feel clean or smell very good, but I am SO happy to announce that not only do they feel clean, but they smell nice as well.
The other reason that I wanted to make the switch is because I have a hunch that the scented laundry soap was wreaking havoc on my face. I was sporadically getting dry patches on my skin and I’d wake up with my eyes swollen. And silly me could not, for the life of me, figure out what was wrong with me. I tried switching up all the products I’d use on my face, to no avail. After awhile, the patches would go away, and my eyes wouldn’t be swollen anymore so, I’d forget the whole thing, until I realized that these symptoms matched up to whenever I’d clean our sheets, comforters, AND pillowcases!!! Since making the switch, I’ve had absolutely no trouble with my skin.
The laundry detergent that I use is from a Michigan brand called Moon Works, if anyone was wondering. ❤
I’ve also seen a lot of different DIY’s people have made for laundry detergent, and maybe I’ll try that out when I’ve run out of the laundry detergent I have now. I’ll keep y’all updated.
Thank you so much for reading!!!
XOXO,
Mattie Mae
