Waste Not Want Not: Muffin Tin Crayons

Hi, friends! I wanted to hop on here and share a fun little upcycle/craft my daughter and I did today. It was very easy and helped us avoid waste!

I’ve seen this idea on Pinterest for quite awhile, but I’d been putting it off for whatever reason. No more! I decided to go ahead and do it, as we had such a surplus of broken crayons. (I don’t know if crayons are made differently now, or if I just have adult strength, but these crayons break much more often than I remember as a child.)

This is the tutorial I followed.

The instructions said to use various colors per tin, but I added all like colors together. I also added some candle wax from old candles that I’d been hoarding in my freezer, once they got past the point of being able to be burnt. This made them smell nice, but added a clear layer to the crayon that I had to color for a bit to work through. I came up with the idea because I had a few scented crayons as a kid, I remember one of them being a fresh linens scent that I absolutely loved. Perhaps I’ll try it again, but make sure to mix it more.

I ended up separating some colors and filling more circles on the tin.
Right after coming out of the oven.
After cooling down.
Some came right out, but the rest I took a toothpick and circled the perimeter and then dud into the side and it freed the crayon.
I especially liked the look of these.
My daughter also really enjoyed stacking them like blocks! A two for one!

That’s that, friends! I hope this inspired you to try something new!

Xoxo,

Mattie Mae
