Hello, dear friends! In today’s post, I wanted to share with y’all some of the songs that I’ve been listening to lately. I said this in my last monthly playlist, but I’ll say it again, when I get to liking a song, I’ll listen to it over and over, so there will most likely be repeats of all of these songs in the future… I will also note that I included the artist that sings the version of the song I’ve been listening to, not necessarily the artist who initially released the song. ❤
“Summer Music” sung by Advance Base.
“Some recollection of symmetry / it was hazy and 70 / and her in a summer dress / half a beer and her hair a mess / the sound of music from the kitchen boombox.”
“Love Song” sung by Spoon.
“I’ll be the ticket if you’re my collector / I’ve got the fare if you’re my inspector/ I’ll be the luggage, if you’ll be the porter / I’ll be the parcel if you’ll be my sorter.”
“16, Maybe Less” sung by Calexio and Iron & Wine.
“Beyond the ridge to the left, you asked me what I want / between the trees and cicadas singing around the pond / ‘I spent an hour with you, should I want anything else?’ “
“So Real” sung by Jeff Buckley.
“And I never stepped on the cracks ’cause I thought I’d hurt my mother.”
“When the Night is Over” sung by Lord Huron.
“When the ocean drinks the sky / and the city winks its eye / when the night is done, you’ll vanish in the sun / will I hold you when the night is over?”
“Year of the Cat” sung by Al Stewart.
“She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running / like a watercolor in the rain.”
“Summer Wine” sung by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood.
“Strawberries, cherries, and an angel’s kiss in spring / my summer wine is really made from all these things.”
“Killing Me Softly with Her Song” sung by Perry Como.
“I felt all flushed with fever, embarrassed by the crowd / I felt she found my letters and read each one out loud.”
“Somethin’ Stupid” sung by Frank Sinatra and Nancy Sinatra.
“The time is right / your perfume fills my head. / The stars get red / and, oh / the night’s so blue. / And then I go and spoil it all by saying somethin’ stupid like, ‘I love you.’ “
“The End of the World” sung by Skeeter Davis.
“Why does the sun go on shining? / Why does the sea rush to shore? / Don’t they know it’s the end of the world? / Cuz you don’t love me anymore.”
And that’s my January playlist, my dear friends! What songs have you been listening to, as of late? I’m already creating my February playlist, so be on the lookout for that! ❤
Thank you so much for reading!
XOXO,
Mattie Mae
