Hi, friends! I hope that you’ve been having a lovely week! It’s Friday! Yay! If you haven’t seen all one million of my social media posts about it… I’m engaged!!! (I could add an additional million exclamation marks here, but I suppose I’ll spare you.) Yes, I am now engaged. How lovely and surreal it is to say that.
For all of my family and friends who haven’t been able to hear the story in person, I thought I would make a blog post dedicated to it!
So, it’s Friday, the eleventh of January. Bobby and I completed our errands that we needed to in town and then hit the road! His work party was Saturday in Traverse City, so we were going to celebrate our anniversary a little early (or so I thought) on Friday.
We got all gussied up and began to head downtown. Bobby had told me that he was going to give me my anniversary present on Friday, but we had to be in a specific spot for it. I had no idea what he was talking about, but honestly, and surprisingly, I didn’t bug him too much about it.
Our reservation wasn’t until eight, but we got downtown around seven so that we could wander around a little bit. If you know anything about me, you’ll know that I adore any downtown. They’re just so cute and cozy. And the downtown in Traverse City is one of my favorites. We meandered in and out of the shops, trying to stay warm.
When it was finally time to have dinner, we walked into The Franklin, which is just the most wonderful restaurant. I had never gone there before and boy, did I feel fancy eating there. We had wine that cost more per glass than I usually pay per bottle!
After we left, he announced that we had to go to the car to grab my anniversary present. We headed to the car and then we began to walk towards a bridge that’s downtown. It has lights across the interior and it really is quite beautiful. We stood on the bridge, he handed me my gift, and it was… it was…
Fishing line and fishing lures.
Now, here’s the thing. Bobby is no stranger to puns, so while I was somewhat confused, I wondered if perhaps there was a pun at play here. “I really caught a good one with you!” or “Hook, line, and sinker, I’m yours!”.
Bobby looked confused and a little embarrassed.
“We have to go back to the car. I grabbed the wrong bag!”
Now, I don’t know I had ever felt MORE like I was in a rom-com than I did in that moment.
We walk back to the car and get bag #2. We repeat. This time when I open up the bag, it’s the cutest shadow box I had ever seen. And as someone who is an avid Pinterest user, you can rest assured that I’ve seen a shadow box or two. (The shadow box is featured in the picture for this blog post, but I’ll post an additional one at the end of the post.) I read the note inside the shadow box and looked towards Bobby, to see him kneeling, with a boxed ring.
Safe to say, I was incredibly flabbergasted, and couldn’t seem to stop saying, “Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my GOSH! What? Oh my gosh!”
It was such a wonderful moment, just the two of us, as neither of us are at ease with very large crowds. It was perfect!
SO, if you see me posting incessantly (which, I will be…) about being engaged, now you know the story behind it! And boy oh boy, have I been having fun planning our wedding, as if I haven’t been pinning future wedding things on Pinterest since I was fourteen. (When we had to plan our wedding for my child development class, and I planned mine with Joseph Gordon-Levitt).
I’m SO incredibly blessed to have found the most wonderful man to spend the rest of my life with, and BONUS! His family is wonderful too!
Thank you so much for reading, have a great weekend!
XOXO,
Mattie Mae
EDIT: I had taken some video clips that weekend, so I thought I would add them to this blog! Here’s the link!
