Hi, friends!
In my last post, I believe I mentioned that I’ve been shopping at Aldi, as of late. I love that they are so affordable and have many organic options that are even cheaper than some non-organic options at other stores. When we switched from Meijer to Aldi, we began saving SO much money. And they generally have everything that we need.
HOWEVER…
This week I wanted to make homemade ranch (semi-homemade? I used a Hidden Valley Ranch packet) with a base of buttermilk, which my Aldi didn’t have, so instead I needed some lemon to add to my milk to make the switch. Easy enough, but my biggest (and truly it’s not that big of a deal) gripe with Aldi is that so many of their produce items are sold by the bag instead of individually. So, when all I needed was 1 tbs of lemon juice, I ended up with an entire bag of lemons.
So, in the effort of no food waste, I decided to make a batch of lemonade, which was such a great treat, especially with how hot it’s been lately. I also had some leftover limes, so I added those as well. Add lots of sugar and lots of water (heated over the stove!). I just kept alternating until it was to taste.
The ranch also turned out very well, but I’d really like to one day try to make it completely from scratch. I’ve seen some posts on Pinterest on how to do it, so perhaps I will try that some day soon. Stay tuned!
XOXO,
Mattie Mae
